How to Choose a Roofing Contractor in Toronto

Hiring a roofing contractor in Toronto is a big decision. A roof repair or replacement affects your home’s protection, energy efficiency, resale value, and long-term maintenance costs. The right contractor should explain the problem clearly, provide a written estimate, use suitable materials, and stand behind the work.

If you are already looking for a trusted roofing company in Toronto, Professional Roofers provides residential and commercial roof repair, roof replacement, flat roofing, shingle roofing, emergency roofing, skylights, eavestroughs, soffit, fascia, attic ventilation, and insulation services across Toronto and the GTA.

1. Confirm Insurance and Business Credentials

Before hiring any roofer, ask for proof of insurance and proper business credentials. Roofing work involves ladders, steep slopes, tools, materials, disposal, and weather exposure. A legitimate roofing company should be able to explain how its crew, property protection, safety process, and warranty support work.

2. Ask About Local Toronto Roofing Experience

Toronto roofs face freeze-thaw cycles, wind, rain, snow, ice buildup, aging shingles, flat-roof ponding, and ventilation issues. A contractor with local experience can spot problems that a general contractor or out-of-area installer may miss.

Professional Roofers has served Toronto and the GTA since 1999 and works on residential and commercial roofing systems across the region.

3. Review Recent Customer Feedback

Reviews help you understand how a contractor communicates, handles cleanup, explains quotes, schedules projects, and responds after the job. Look for reviews that mention the type of work you need, such as roof repair, shingle replacement, flat roofing, emergency repair, eavestroughs, or commercial roofing.

4. Get a Written Roofing Estimate

A roofing estimate should not be vague. It should explain the recommended work, materials, labour, removal and disposal, ventilation or flashing details, warranty information, payment terms, and expected project timing.

A good estimate should answer:

  • What problem was found?
  • What work is recommended?
  • What materials will be used?
  • What is included and excluded?
  • What happens if hidden damage is found?
  • What warranty applies?
  • What cleanup is included?

5. Ask About Materials and Manufacturer Standards

Different roofs need different systems. Shingle roofs, flat roofs, metal roofs, skylights, attic ventilation, and commercial roofs each require different installation details. Ask the contractor to explain why they recommend a specific material or system.

Professional Roofers is an IKO Premier Craftsman certified roofing contractor. You can learn more about company credentials on the credentials and certifications page.

6. Compare Warranty Coverage

Warranty terms matter. Ask what is covered by the manufacturer, what is covered by workmanship, and what maintenance may be required. Review Professional Roofers’ warranty information before starting your project.

7. Make Sure the Contractor Handles Your Exact Roofing Need

Some roofing companies focus mainly on shingles. Others may also handle flat roofing, metal roofing, emergency repair, commercial roofing, eavestroughs, soffit, fascia, skylights, and ventilation.

Professional Roofers provides:

8. Avoid Red Flags

Be careful with any contractor who:

  • Refuses to provide a written estimate
  • Pressures you to decide immediately
  • Cannot explain warranty coverage
  • Has no visible business details
  • Avoids questions about insurance
  • Gives a quote that is much lower without explaining why
  • Uses vague material descriptions
  • Has poor or inconsistent reviews

FAQs

Ask about insurance, local experience, materials, warranty coverage, cleanup, timeline, payment terms, and whether the estimate includes all expected labour and materials.

Yes. Comparing estimates can help you understand pricing, materials, project scope, and communication quality. Do not choose based on price alone.

Look for clear business information, strong recent reviews, transparent estimates, relevant certifications, insurance, warranty support, and experience with your type of roofing project.

Our non-prorated* warranty covers: LABOUR, MATERIALS, TEAR OFF, and DISPOSAL.

If you have problems with your new roof and which relates to a defect in the materials. Professional Roofers will cover you according to the manufacturer’s warranty specifications for the materials we used on your house or building if the manufacturer fails to fulfil its own warranty for some reason other than the act(s) or default(s) of the customer.

ROOF SHINGLES: Our non-prorated* warranty is from 10 to 15 years depending on the package you choose when you sign the contract.

METAL ROOF: Our non-prorated* warranty is 15 years depending on the package you choose when you sign the contract. Our warranty does not cover animal damage, wind damage or any other acts of Mother Nature, discolouration, fading, corrosion, rust, fire, falling objects, or if the roof is mishandled, modified, or altered.

FLAT ROOF: We offer a five (5) year limited* warranty with respect to defects in installation.

EAVESTROUGH AND METAL WORK: We offer a five (5) year limited* warranty with respect to defects in installation and a twenty-five (25) year limited* warranty with respect to defects in materials.

SMALL REPAIRS: Normally we offer a one (1) year warranty for the area which we repair, only. However, if the problem occurs again during the one (1) year period, we are always willing to go back one more time to try and find a solution free of charge. If the problem continues thereafter, Professional Roofers will usually suggest a larger repair or new installation for which there will be an additional charge. If a whole new roof is required, the fee for the repair previously charged will be deducted from cost of the new roof.
